Pick my brain

As an experiment, I’m offering my time for free in exchange for a donation to a charitable cause.

Once you’ve made the donation I’ll send you over a link to book a 1 hour Zoom call with me where you can ask any questions you like!

For example you could:

  • Ask questions about Squarespace

  • Get advice about freelancing

  • Talk to me about productivity and time management

  • Use me as a sounding board for your ideas

Or really just chat about whatever you want. It’s a bit like office hours, if you’re familiar with that concept.

Note: Because I am giving my time away for free, this offer is limited to one donation session per person.

How does it work?

1. Make a donation to one of the causes listed below

  • I’ve provided some suggestions but you’re welcome to donate to any organisation within the six themes of reproductive justice, anti-racism, 2SLGBTQ+ rights, climate action, suicide prevention, or victims of conflict.

  • There’s no minimum amount, I just ask you to give what you can.

2. Send me evidence of your donation

  • Email a screenshot (or forward a receipt) of your donation to hello@sqspqueen.com.

  • Feel free to delete or edit out any personal information.

3. I’ll send you a link to book your 1 hour Zoom call

  • I’m now based in Canada so available slots will be generally be between 5pm - 10:30pm UK time (9am - 2:30pm Pacific time) Tuesday to Thursday.

  • I’m reserving a limited number of slots each month for this experiment, but I’ll update this page if I’m fully booked.

  • I mean, fuck.

I personally have decision paralysis when trying to figure out which state’s abortion fund to support so if that feels familiar then you can donate to Keep Our Clinics who provide financial assistance to enable abortion clinics to remain open.

If you want to see some other options here’s a comprehensive Google Doc.

Things aren’t all rosy even outside of the US. The Abortion Support Network is a UK-based organisation that helps people from countries in the EU who cannot access safe abortions. They are also currently helping people impacted by the war in Ukraine.

  • I’ve found the Anti-Racism Daily newsletter really valuable in my own anti-racism work and they have an option to donate.

Roe v Wade being overturned is going to have a disproportionate impact on Black people so you may want to show your support for an organisation such as The Afiya Centre.

  • With Roe v Wade being overturned there is a real worry that 2SLGBTQ+ rights will be next.

The charity akt supports lgbtq+ young people aged 16-25 in the uk who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment.

The amount of open transphobia that I see (even in my beloved Guardian newspaper) under the guise of feminism really scares me. And yes, if you are an anti-trans activist, please don’t book a call with me.

Want to upset the Daily Mail? Donate to Mermaids, a charity that they described as “controversial”.

With the advent of so-called “parental rights”, if you’d like to help educators make schools inclusive and safe for students of all sexual orientations and gender identities (SOGI) then you can donate to organisations such as SOGI123.

  • The world is (often quite literally) on fire. I’m in the process of signing up to 1% for the Planet but there’s no harm in more money being donated to sustainability causes.

  • I was shocked to learn that suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50, and that men make up 76% of suicides in the UK.

I know a couple of people who have recently experienced loss of a friend or family member due to suicide and in both instances, they were young men under the age of 40.

Papyrus UK focus on the prevention young suicide, and Men’s Minds Matter tackle male suicide by improving the mental health and wellbeing of men and boys.

Samaritans offer support in times of crisis and work to prevent suicide.

There are also charities such as Mind who provide support around mental health.

  • Whilst the world rushed to support the people of Ukraine, there have been a number of “forgotten wars” that didn’t seem to inspire global outrage at the same level.

So if you would prefer to donate to an organisation such as War Child, which helps children living through conflicts in places like Ukraine, Yemen, and Afghanistan, then you’re welcome to do so.

Want to support Palestine? Organisations such as UN Crisis Relief are providing urgent aid to victims in Gaza.
